Friday Fun Fact

so it's friday!!!! yippee!!!!!

in honor of friday i am mixing things up a bit with a fun friday fact!

how many of you salt your food prior to tasting it?

STOP!!
it may just prevent you from getting a job!

seriously...... no joke....

Mr. JC Penney was a man of great character and great vision
he founded his first store at the age of 26 in 1902

initially, JC Penney, the store, was know as the Golden Store
(in reference to the Golden Rule)

the man himself Mr. JC Penny

so what does this have to do with salting your food?

 i am getting there
be patient my friend!

the Golden Store as it was called then, was the first "cash only" store in a time when many stores accepted mining company scripts or offered store credit

ok
now on to the fun fact about salt!

let's say you are looking for a job and apply at Mr. Penney's store
and you land a dinner interview with Mr JC himself!
(lucky you!!)
you arrive just a little early to a nice quaint restaurant dressed in your best business attire
you are slightly nervous but confident that this is the job for you!
you've rehearsed your pitch and you are ready for this!
Mr. Penney arrives and is excited to here about you and your skills
first though, you must order your food!
dinner is served and you reach for the salt shaker prior to tasting your food

now consider yourself still unemployed

what? why?

because....
Mr. Penney believed those who salted prior to tasting were closed minded and not open to new ideas
so
he wouldn't hire them

so there is your friday fact! when you go out to dinner tonight think twice about salting prior to tasting!

happy friday everyone!

thank you to my mimi for telling me bedtime stories of Mr. JC Penney and other infamous business folk! this is what you learn when your grandmother is a college professor!

now we just call him maik......

oct 15, 2010
maik becomes a 'civilian'
and meets the admiral

at first maik was muzzled (just to be safe)
but it appeared the boys would get along just fine

less than 24 hours later it was muzzle free play time!

now as a 'civilian' he could make trips to doggie retail heaven known as:
PETSMART!!

something you MUST know about maik....
he loves loves loves loves toys...especially kongs...
did i mention he loved toys?

maik meet the toy aisle....

it's so hard to decide....

remember how i said maik loves kongs...

maik meet the kong section...

ahhhh (insert heaven's angel sound)

maik finally decided on the wubba kong...

maik's first day as a 'civilian' was a success!
kong + playmate (admiral) + couch....

couch? how does a military dog instinctively know to lay on a couch?

ok so maik found the couch.....

and the bed.....
thank you admiral for teaching him all your good habits

and all lived happily ever after.......

so what happens when maik meets dyson?

or when maik gets to spend time with just me without kenneth's supervision?

you will have to read more tomorrow!
probably more like friday but i promise soon!

below is the story of how maik came into our lives....

kenneth returned to tinker from k9 training in june 2009

and it was a match made in k9 world heaven

was i jealous of this four paw creature that spent more time with my husband than me.....

maik made kenneth so happy

pictures from the 'early days'

jan 2010 deployment training began.....

welcome to Yuma, Arizona...

hello ft dix!

final destination: now number 2 on "highly traveled" list

IRAQ!

they made such a good team!

may 3
to many of us this is a day that will be remembered because of a
to the clinton household it is the day that maik got injured
a ruptured achilles tendon from a freak accident ended the deployment
and started a five and a half month journey of surgeries, healing, anticipation, worry, and excitement

maik underwent surgery to repair the achilles tendon.

due to the graphic nature pictures of the surgery available upon request.

remember how i said earlier that maik made kenneth happy
and i was kinda jealous....

july 2010 i found out how happy kenneth made maik
and then i couldn't be jealous....

reunited!!!
the face of a happy dog!

it is not goodbye but see you later!

tomorrow we will fast forward from july to oct 15 and meet maik the civilian dog :)

Hello Autobahn....

meet the newest member of our family....
our new volkswagen golf (aka as the rabbit) we call her v-dubbs, betsy, peni (european..get it) frankly we haven't settled on a name yet. suggestions welcomed.

we sold our american cars and purchased this nice european cruiser. another way we are preparing for a complete change in lifestyle

it is a small family car that was first manufactured in 1974.
it has had many names such as the Rabbit (USA and Canada), the Caribe (Mexico), and the Golf (European)
the golf is Volkswagen's best-selling model and the world's third best-selling model!!

a photo montage of the golf through the years:

the first golf...
  late 80's early 90's

 late 90's early 00's
and the current model

so why is the golf perfect for us????

*it's a hatchback which means seats fold flat for optimal doggie space
*the golf/rabbit has a long history in my family....my mimi owned two my father owned one, so it is only natural....
*it will fit on the italian road ways nicely...
*did i mention it has a digital read out in km per hour! (no speeding tickets for me! which i am quite proud to say i am 26 and have NEVER received a speeding ticket!)

and we have already started to make it ours!

so as our departure date gets closer this begins one of many hellos we will encounter on our adventure!

our first picture in our new european ride :)
