horizontal...day 4

day four
let me tell you this being on bedrest
as modified as it is
is for the dogs
they seem to be doing better at resting than me
so what have i done
in day 2
and in day 3
to keep me busy
i know you are dying to know
because it is oh so exciting!
remember in
i mentioned my hour or two of freedom was to be spent at a bible study?
well that didn't happen
maik decided i was better off in bed
and as i was leaning over
to put on my boot
he jumped on the bed
and
wham!
i am now modeling cover girl's new spring color
"lights out"
i am not a fan of the color
please don't invest in it
so that brings us to day two
and
i decide to spend my hour
grocery shopping
yep, exciting i know!!!
day three
this is the good stuff folks
i tackle my mountain of shredding

that i have put off for about a year now
the problem was i kept blowing fuses
another great thing about living oconus
and i am too cheap to buy a 220 shredder
but
alas
the shredding is done!!!
woohoo!!!!
i feel so accomplished
today
day 4
i am breaking free!
for an hour or two
promise
and having lunch with a dear friend
and a really smart one year old little girl
however,
i may forget my watch!

horizontal....day one

so the time has come
we had a feeling it would happen
i dreaded it would happen
but
alas it did
after friday's appointment
the doc
has put me on
"modified bedrest"
why you ask?
trust me i screamed this!!
too much amniotic fluid
too weak of cervix
and a really big baby
so what is
"modified bedrest"
dr google
will give you a lot of information
but
has a great article
the nuts and bolts
of it
per the doctor's orders were
"sleep in late,
take lots of naps,
go to bed early
and
only about an hour or two out of the house a day"
my husband's response
"honey, if you played xbox that's some quality xbox time"
secretly i think he wanted the doc to give him
modified bedrest orders
so he could "support" me
today
is my first day unsupervised
since hubby is at work
and yes he has already called to check on me
to make sure i'm following doctor's orders
to be trusted to stay off my feet
so what have i done?
because frankly this is a form of cruel and unusual punishment
first i read....
today's book
an odd beginning but overall a good book
then...
since we all know how great AFN's line up is
i enjoyed
a little grey's
with o'malley!!
yes you heard me right
afn still plays grey's
with o'malley
and who doesn't love o'malley?!?
finally...
finished the day off
with
a nice movie
i'm a sucker for romantic comedies
and jennifer lopez movies
my hour or two free from house arrest
will be spent at bible study
asking God for sanity for the next 7 weeks
friday
i go back to the doc
my hope is that they may revoke
the "modified bedrest"
order
but till then
i will follow doc's orders
enjoy some cuddle time with the pups
read some good books
watch some good movies
and
truly cherish the one to two hours of freedom a day

thankful thursday...hope

i said it yesterday
and i am going to say it today
and probably tomorrow
and the next day
june sucked
and after every disappointment
i would find something
to hope for
to try and remain optimistic
and
i thought hoping
was helping
but
a part of me
wanted to throw up my hands
and
scream
"really!!! not again!!!"
but
the good news
is
i still have a roof over my head
that has amazing views!
food in my belly
good food at that!
pups who think i'm the best thing since the dog bone
i think they are biased
i am the hand that feeds them
and
friends
old and new
love group skype!!
and they threw up their hands and said "really?!?" for me!
so
bring it on july
june may have roughed me up
but
i still got hope!

the way we go

memorial day
and
kenneth is off
which is a rare thing: him being off for a holiday
so
we decided to go
our options:
mountains
or beach
the only requirement
must bring dogs!
let me digress
do a little story telling
kenneth is a
"make his own trail"
type of guy
for example
if we go hiking
and there is a clear trail
he veers left
or
right
 whichever way
looks the most challenging
my fear:
i fear getting lost
and long tunnels but again that's beside the point
so
his sense of adventure
plus my fear of getting loss
tends to make us
interesting travel buddies
after seven years though
i've found ways to compromise
first
select destination
beach it is!
second
use the gps
i know i just said kenneth is no maps kind of guy
here's the compromise part
then
choose "point of interest near me"
select "beaches"
and allow kenneth to randomly select one
ok so our first beach ended up being a cliff
but the second was a beach
now why didn't we go to caorle beach
like every other american on memorial day
because folks
that would be kenneth taking the main trail
the marked trail
he doesn't do that
with the help of the gps
we ended up
a nice quiet beach
with beautiful scenery
this was the pups first time at the beach!
on the way home
we found
a beautiful winery
and
kenneth's said
"lets stop!"
this was a shock
due to the fact kenneth doesn't drink wine
so we did
after i sampled a few glasses
we ended up
leaving with six bottles
which included a
'becca size bottle of refosco'
continuing our drive home
we found
roman ruins
and in our region
roman ruins are rare!
the day went perfectly
as unplanned as it was
and
maybe one day
we will get to caorle beach
where every other american goes
but for now
i like my husband's sense of adventure
even if it does lead us to a cliff the first time!

leaving a piece of us in italy

my husband is a sentimental guy
or he just knows what to say to get what he wants
and
while at the
he wanted a tree
or a bush
or a plant
just something
i hesitated for many reasons
one
i have a black thumb
i pretend to have a green thumb
but honestly
it's black
two
i had no clue about the soil here
i didn't want to plant something
and two days later
it's dead
refer to reason number one
and lastly
we are only here four years
why put money into something we can't take with us
let me say this
we landscaped our home back in oklahoma less than a year ago
and now we can't enjoy it
yes, i'm bitter
so
for all the reasons listed
i was set on
"No"
nothing goes in the ground,
potted plants ok,
they are cheaper
and easier to keep alive.
but then
he says,
"babe, but what if i want to leave a little bit of us in italy"
oh geeze! the corny lines that make me say
"ok dear, whatever you want"
and now we have this lovely bush
and because when we got home
i realized what i got sucker into
i told him
"i'm not planting it today"
he's still considered "post-op status"
and really shouldn't be digging a hole
he kindly responded,
"no, hurry.
besides
i don't think we have a shovel."
some things you choose not to move
and a shovel was one of the things
we choose not to move
but alas
he had his mind set on
planting that darn bush
and
by george
we did have a shovel
so he went to work
he chose this location because
the dogs tend to run
and wear down the grass
his hopes
is the bush will stop them
and he dug some more
admiral even helped him a little
digging dirt in italy
is hard work
look at the dedication
while digging this hole
we found rocks
lots and lots of rocks
which makes
digging
a little more difficult
but
in the end
the bush got planted

please ignore the fact the yard isn't mowed
i'm secretly waiting for kenneth to be no longer post op status
so he can mow it!
and
we will leave a little part of us
in italia.

stillness and bliss

is breathtaking
i've heard rumors of such
but i had to investigate myself
so
like any good parent to four-pawed creatures
would do
on a nice weather day
we loaded up the pups
and headed
about thirty to forty-five minutes up the the road
and
discovered
i am not a fisherman
but i was quite jealous of this man fishing
he looked so relaxed
lake barcis
can best be described
as peaceful
i caught myself walking quietly
so not to disturb the silence
or the ducks
even the ducks had that look in their eye
like "shh.... don't you know this is a quiet place"
another view
even admiral enjoyed the quietness
however he became quite bored with it
the highlight of his trip was the gelato shop
filled with kiddos begging to play with him
admiral and maik were good sports
posing for pictures

and more pictures

i must remind myself maik was trained to attack
don't ask to much from him...
i want to make it known
right here
right now
i've found my retirement home
see that white house
that's it!
my future home
hey a girl can dream!
after an hour long walk
around the lake
and a hundred or so pictures later
we decided to say
"arriverderci"
to lake barcis
and like any good parent
to our four-legged creatures
we
watered our pups
and headed to the gelateria!
